Quite obviously a smooth newt.  A smooth newt appearing on a bunch of bananas is suspicious to say the least.

Some astounding quotes from the above article;

 'I rang Tesco headquarters and they said they would destroy him for me'

That was very good of Tescos to offer.

An RSPCA officer who collected Ned (edit; a smooth newt) could not identify the species but said he was a baby and not from Britain.

At least we can rest assured that the experts are available to offer the benefit of their wisdom to the public.

The RSPCA officer concerned could of course appear in court as an "expert witness" in a prosecution case the very next day.   It just doesn`t bear thinking about.

If its not fur nor feather then the RSPCA have not got a clue. I used to respect them but since I've found out how useless they really are in relation to herps
